Brixham Wheelchair Accessible bungalow

Accessible Beaches

Brixham is situated in Torbay, known as the English Riviera due to its warm climate, palm trees &

beautiful landscapes. It’s been designated UNESCO Global Geopark status due to its unique

geology with unique rock formations in its coastal cliffs. There’s many beautiful beaches &

sheltered coves that have calm water.

There are nine beaches that can be accessed via a concrete slope onto the sand.

Goodrington Sands

Goodrington Sands just 4 miles from the bungalow,has a
beach wheelchair for hire,& gentle sloped access to the long
sandy beach.

The beach is in a sheltered cove, with usually calm sea
perfect for paddling.

There are beach huts for daily hire that are accessed from the
wheelchair accessible promenade. There’s a park next to the
beach which has play equipment, crazy golf & a small boating
lake.

There’s an ice cream kiosk in the park, cafe & bar/

restaurant next to the promenade. There’s a disabled toilet

situated in the toilet block in the park, & disabled parking in the

two carparks. Very popular with families with children.

Broadsands Beach

Broadsands is just over 2 miles away from the bungalow.
Has a sheltered cove , usually calm sea & a long sandy beach.
There are beach huts available for daily hire.
There is a concrete slope down to the beach, but it’s quite
steep & can be wet & sandy.
There is an accessible promenade along the beach, & an
accessible coastal footpath with beautiful views. Which runs
from the promenade up to a meadow at the side of the pitch &
putt golf course. The path has a steep slope from the
promenade up to the meadow. I managed it in a Q100 power
chair.

In the meadow the path is flatter & made of compacted
crushed stone, but is uneven in places. There are benches
along the path & beautiful views across the sea & of the
coast line.

Paignton Beach

Paignton has a very long sandy beach.
There is a long accessible promenade
along the edge of the beach, with gentle
sloping concrete ramps onto the beach.

There is also an accessible pier which has crazy golf &

amusement arcade. There is also a footpath that runs

along the sides of the pier, with views of the coastline &

out to sea.

The promenade is flat with tarmac or concrete paths, &

wheelchair accessible. There’s a changing place toilet with

a hoist next to the cinema, which is next to the

promenade. There are also many food kiosks & cafes, bar

& restaurants & crazy golf. A large adventure playground

with some accessible play equipment. Basket swing, flat

roundabout, sand table & water play, & a picnic area on the

green.

There is disabled parking areas along the promenade. The

car park is being redesigned during winter 2025, so I will

check it out when it’s finished.

Torquay Beaches

Torquay has many beaches that are accessible via
concrete ramps, & a long flat accessible promenade
along the seafront. There’s parks running alongside
the promenade & the palm gardens, which have
accessible footpaths.

The Princess Pier is accessible & there’s views of the

marina & harbour, & out to sea. There are food kiosks

& a theatre along the promenade; & fish + chip shops

& restaurants next to the promenade.

Breakwater Beach, Brixham

Brixham’s Breakwater beach is at the end of the harbour.

It’s small & has both stones & sand.

There’s an accessible concrete walkway/ seating area at

the end of the beach, next to the car park which has

disabled parking. The beach can be accessed via a short

concrete ramp off the walk way.

There is a cafe/ restaurant next to the carpark which is

wheelchair accessible & looks out to sea. There are also

disabled toilets.
